Navigate Student Support Special Needs

University of Sheffield

Embark on an immersive investigation of a troubled student's challenges and determine what available support structures to recommend.

Opportunity

Evaluation of a case, including conducting interviews with the student, teachers, and parents, is a key learning objective of a foundational course in social work. The instructor wanted to give learners a low stakes, hands-on setting where they could practice conducting these interviews.

Solution

A four-avatar scenario where the learner interacts with the student’s father, tutor, school psychologist, and SENDCO coordinator to understand the multidimensional struggles of the student.

Through this simulation, students are invited to better understand the multidimensional struggles of a student named Jay and discover how these stakeholders interact to support Jay and ask thoughtful questions to gain a deeper understanding of the situation to best manage the multidimensional struggles of the student.
